Summary
In September, Xerox added the Phaser 7100 series to its A3 color laser printer lineup, targeted at small and medium-sized businesses. The Phaser 7100N and 7100DN sit below the Phaser 7500 family and are considered the OEMs newest entry-level color printers. The new Phaser devices are nearly identical single-function color devices with 52,000-page maximum monthly duty cycles and print speeds of 30 ppm in both black and color. The Phaser 7100DN offers the same features as the 7100N but is also configured with standard duplex printing. The 7100 series machines ship with a paper capacity of 400 sheets, expandable to 2,050 sheets with up to three optional 550-sheet feeders. External wireless is optional on both machines, along with a productivity kit that comes with a 40 GB hard drive and features that include additional font storage, 128-bit hard disk encryption, hard disk overwrite and increased security functions.
The Phaser 7100N and 7100DN employ a new single set of CMYK toner cartridges, along with other new consumables and an improved Fuji Xerox-designed engine. The toner cartridges are separate from the imaging units. The CMY cartridges yield 4,500 pages and are sold both singly and in packages of two, while the black cartridges are only sold in 10,000-page yield dual packs. Other consumables are all rated at 24,000 pages and include a black imaging unit, individual color neutral imaging units and a waste cartridge.
Xerox priced the Phaser 7100N and 7100DN at $1,599 and $1,799, respectively, but $200 rebates are available on each machine, which brings the price down to $1,399 and $1,599. The new entry-level color machines are available through Xerox resellers, dealers and concessionaires.
